Apple files a patent for a foldable iPhone | “Opens and closes like a book”

Predicting; as off 2018, foldable phones are gonna be a trend. Exciting!

Over the past few years, a lot of tech companies have been looking into the concept of bendable, foldable phones. Following earlier rumors that Apple is working with LG on a foldable iPhone, the company filed a patent application for a foldable device that can “open and close like a book”.

Details of the device have not been mentioned, but knowing that the device will open and close like a book, gives us an almost clear picture of what the device will be like.

“An electronic device may have a flexible portion that allows the device to be folded. The device may have a flexible display. The flexible display may have a bending region that allows the display to bend along a bend axis when the device is folded,” said a patent application published by The US Patent and Trademark Office.

Samsung having the best OLED displays in the market, Apple still decided to work with LG instead, of course! The rivalry between Apple and Samsung isn’t gonna die any time soon.

Meanwhile, LG has already completed its own foldable OLED panel prototype and has been upgrading the durability and the yield rate.

It isn’t yet clear when we can expect iPhone’s foldable device, but Samsung is already working on one – The Galaxy X – which is expected to be revealed as soon January 2018 at CES. Just to keep the competition level, we have to hope – for Apple’s sake – that we don’t see a foldable iPhone too late after Samsung’s Galaxy X. That would just put an emphasis on Samsung’s ad about Apple always being behind
